Hazrat Musleh Maud’s (may God be pleased with him) explanation regarding the proof of the existence of God.
‘The year 1900 was when my heart was drawn towards the understanding of Islamic teachings – I was 11 years old at the time. Someone had brought a checked cloak for the Promised Messiah, peace be upon him. I took this cloak from him only due to liking its colour and pattern. I could not wear it as the cloak hung beneath my feet.
When I turned 11 and the world entered into the twentieth century, this question arose in my mind as to why I believed in God Almighty. What was the proof of His existence? I pondered over this issue late into the night. Eventually, at 10 or 11pm, my heart concluded that most certainly there was a God. That moment was such a jubilant one for me, similar to a lost child who finds their mother and becomes overjoyed. I was joyful that I had found my Creator.
The faith I had inherited had changed to a faith based on personal knowledge. I was overjoyed at this that it was beyond any expression.
At the time I prayed to Allah Almighty and continued to do so for a while, beseeching, ‘O my Lord, may I never be in doubt regarding Your existence.’ I was eleven years old then, but even today I hold that prayer in admiration. I still pray even today, ‘O Lord may I never be in doubt of your existence.’ Yes, I was a child then, but now I am more experienced and I add the following words to this prayer, ‘O Lord, may I continue to increase in the Certainty of Your Existence.’
